As part of a long-standing Rotary Youth Exchange tradition, Samir Zogbi, the Rotary Exchange Student from Argentina, planted an elm tree at the northwest corner of the old quarry to commemorate his exchange year in St. Marys.
Samir's tree is one of ten Rotary Exchange Student trees located throughout the community. Together, these trees form a living legacy of the many young people who have travelled across the world through Rotary Youth Exchange and have called St. Marys home for a year.
The tree planting took place just days before Samir's return to Argentina, following a successful year that included new friendships, academic achievement, personal growth, and countless experiences shared with his host families, fellow students, and members of the Rotary Club of St. Marys.
Rotary Youth Exchange creates opportunities for young people to experience new cultures, develop leadership skills, and build international understanding. The commemorative tree serves as a lasting reminder of the connections formed during Samir's year in Canada.
The Rotary Club of St. Marys wishes Samir all the best as he returns home to Argentina later this month. While his exchange year may be ending, the friendships and memories created during his time in St. Marys will continue for many years to come.
