Mugoiri Support
Education Today, A Brighter Tomorrow
Helping Students Learn, Grow, and Thrive
The Rotary Club of St. Marys is proud to continue its support of Mugoiri Secondary School in Kenya, a school serving approximately 450 students.
Over the years, Rotary has worked with the school to improve facilities, provide computer technology, and create opportunities for students. Our commitment continues in 2027 with projects that address practical needs while helping the school build a more sustainable future.
Mugoiri Support invites individuals, families, students, businesses, and community groups to be part of that effort.
You can choose from four areas of support, with contributions starting at just $10 CAD.
Field to Fork — Growing Food, Growing Skills
Feeding Students Today. Building Skills for Tomorrow.
One of our major initiatives for 2027 is the Field to Fork program, which will help Mugoiri School grow more of its own food while providing students with valuable agricultural education.
The school plans to clear two acres of land and plant vegetables, including kale, onions, and cabbage. Land clearing is scheduled for late November 2026, with planting beginning in December. The first crops are expected to be approaching harvest when our Rotary team arrives in February 2027.
More Than a Vegetable Garden
Field to Fork brings together three important goals:
Better Nutrition
Fresh vegetables grown at the school will help provide nutritious meals for approximately 450 students. Better access to healthy food can support student well-being, attendance, and learning.
Practical Agricultural Education
Students will have opportunities to learn about planting, crop care, harvesting, composting, and sustainable food production. These are practical skills they can use throughout their lives and share with their families.
Long-Term Food Security
The program is designed to become part of the school's daily activities. Through locally appropriate crops, soil conservation, responsible water use, and community involvement, the school aims to develop a sustainable source of fresh vegetables.
The long-term goal is for the school to maintain and expand its food-production activities with less reliance on outside funding.
From the Field to the School Kitchen

Growing vegetables is only part of the story.
Field to Fork also connects food production with the preparation of school meals. Improvements to kitchen equipment and facilities will help the school make effective use of the food it grows.
By supporting Field to Fork, you're helping the school develop the knowledge, equipment, and resources needed to grow food and nourish students for years to come.
Growing food today. Growing skills for a lifetime.
Computer Technology — Opening Doors to Digital Learning
Access to computers and technology is increasingly important for students preparing for further education, employment, and everyday life.
Rotary has already helped Mugoiri School establish and improve its computer facilities. Our continuing commitment is to ensure that students can make meaningful use of those resources.
Support in this area helps the school:
-
Maintain and update its existing computers.
-
Purchase additional used laptop computers as needed.
-
Provide essential accessories, repairs, and technology supplies.
-
Continue employing its computer instructor.
A used laptop computer costs approximately $250 CAD, while the computer instructor's salary is $250 CAD per month.
Technology is most valuable when students have both working equipment and someone to help them learn.

Student Hygiene — Supporting Girls' Health and Dignity
Access to appropriate feminine hygiene products is an important part of supporting adolescent girls at school.
Working with the sisters of the local convent, Mugoiri is developing a program to produce reusable, environmentally friendly feminine hygiene products.
A sewing machine has already been purchased. The next step is to make effective use of that equipment by providing materials and supporting local production.
This initiative aims to provide practical, sustainable products while helping address an ongoing need among female students.
Your contribution supports the materials and activities needed to continue this work.
Classroom Renewal — Creating Better Places to Learn
A welcoming, well-maintained classroom makes a difference to the daily learning experience.
During our February 2027 visit, the Rotary team plans to help renew six additional classrooms at Mugoiri School.
The work will involve thorough cleaning, preparing surfaces, and painting classrooms to create brighter, more comfortable learning spaces.
Contributions to Classroom Renewal will help provide the materials and supplies needed to complete this work.
Sometimes relatively simple improvements can make a lasting difference to the environment in which students and teachers spend their days.

Education Today, A Brighter Tomorrow
The goal of Mugoiri Support is not simply to provide equipment, supplies, or improvements.
It is to help students gain the nourishment, skills, confidence, and learning opportunities that will serve them long after they leave school.
