Emily Taylor, Assistant Curator of the St. Marys Museum, introduced the new exhibit titled “Service Above Self: 100 Years of Rotary Club of St. Marys.” This exhibit commemorates the club’s rich history, beginning with the vision of Paul Harris, who founded Rotary in Chicago in 1905 to foster fellowship among diverse professionals. The display traces Rotary’s growth from a small group to an international organization, including the establishment of the Paul Harris Fellow Recognition, honoring significant contributions to Rotary’s charitable foundation.

The exhibit also highlights the founding of the St. Marys Rotary Club in 1925, showcasing original documents such as the club’s charter application and membership roster. Visitors can learn about the club’s first president, W.N. (Bill) Harrison, who led through challenging times like the Great Depression and World War II, and who kept meetings lively and engaging with a unique leadership style.

Artifacts on display include Paul Harris Fellow awards, historical photographs, and memorabilia donated by club members. A special memory book invites Rotarians and community members to share their own stories and memories, helping to preserve the club’s legacy for future generations.

While this summary offers a glimpse into 100 years of Rotary service, the full story and many cherished artifacts await your visit to the St. Marys Museum’s Citizens Gallery. We encourage everyone to explore the exhibit in person, contribute to the memory book, and celebrate the enduring spirit of Rotary in our community.
