Rotary Youth Exchange exemplifies the best in humanity, fostering growth and understanding among participants, host families, Rotarians, and the broader community. This spirit was vividly showcased during Majo Camacaro's inspiring presentation to a packed audience of Rotarians and guests in-person and online.
Majo, an inbound exchange student from Venezuela (2019-2020), was hosted in London during her exchange year. The COVID-19 lockdown in 2020 prevented her from returning home. Further challenges arose that kept her from reuniting with her family. However, Majo’s story is not about the obstacles she faced, but about the resilience, determination, and optimism with which she has navigated her journey.
She has earned her high school diploma. With scholarship support from the Rotary Club of London, she is now pursuing her studies in interior design at Fanshawe College, where she will soon graduate and plans to continue with her postgraduate education.
Majo is an active member of the Rotary family, participating in leadership events for youth and mentoring outbound exchange students. Her journey has been supported by the generosity of five host families who have welcomed her into their homes since 2019, including her current host mother, a former exchange student, who joined her at the presentation.
As Majo works toward becoming a Canadian citizen, her story serves as a powerful testament to the life-changing impact of Rotary Youth Exchange and the enduring connections it creates.
