John Harlton:

..... I was searching for a service club that would provide both community national and worldwide impact. Further in my formative years I was impressed by what the ROTARY CLUB of ST. MARYS was doing in the town; particularly their scholarship and exchange programs. I had known some exchange students whose lives have been transformed and horizons broadened as a result of the Exchange program.

Bob Stephens, my future Rotarian mentor invited me to my first meeting.  After a couple meetings I discovered that Rotary members were very friendly, co-operative and indeed serious about Rotary’s motto “SERVICE ABOVE SELF”. I decided to join and have never regretted the decision.

That’s the reason I continue to serve at Rotary. It is a lot of fun, good friends and ROTARY puts ideas into action.  Rotary has impacted almost every major recreational or educational facility and/or their programs in our town. Rotary Club of ST MARYS takes on the big projects in our community, and donates sizeable funding to ensure their success. It is impressive to be part of an Active Service Club that makes major contributions not only locally but worldwide.  An example is Polio Plus where Rotarians are committed to global eradication of Polio.

For me, an ‘aha’ moment occurred recently. The hard-working members of the Rotary club of St. Marys chose to recognize one of our own energetic and Innovative colleagues.  LEN HAWKINS was awarded a “Double Paul Harris Fellowship” for his contributions to Rotary and our community.  Congratulations to my good friend and fellow Rotarian Len Hawkins. It is a well-deserved Award & Recognition for your many accomplishments over the past 15? years as a ROTARIAN!!
